Sewing Wahm Business
Sewing Wahm Business
Are you handy with a needle and thread? Do you enjoy sewing clothes for yourself or your children? Are friends and relatives always asking you to make sewing repairs? If so, then you have the perfect beginnings for a work at home sewing business.
Sewing is a skill that is coming back into fashion as more people seek to reduce their clothing costs and make the clothes that they have last longer. Many Wahms find profitable businesses in offering their sewing skills to people who don’t have the time or the skill to make repairs or alterations on their clothes. There are even several profitable sewing niches, like cloth diapers and slings, which have found interest online.
Getting started with your sewing business starts with deciding what you want to do. You can specialize in one type of sewing (bridal party gowns) or you can take a wide variety of jobs. Since it is your business, it is totally up to you how to run it. Some people specialize in children’s clothing, alterations/repairs, women’s clothing or formal wear. Although sewing clothing is the most profitable field, many Wahms enjoy offering home décor services and make curtains, slipcovers and other home accents.
Before you start advertising, make sure that you have the supplies that you’ll need. If you have an older sewing machine that has “bad days” when it doesn’t work right, you might want to consider getting a new machine so you can work more efficiently. The cost of a new machine is worth it compared to the time that you’ll save. Plus, the new sewing machine is a tax write-off. You probably already have the sewing notions that you’ll need to get started. If you need something for a specific project, you’ll just buy it at the time.
You’ll also need to decide on set prices before you begin advertising your services. If you are doing repairs, you can charge a certain price per task. If you are custom sewing clothing, you can either charge a flat fee or charge by the hour. For larger projects, like wedding dresses, charging by the hour can work out to be a better deal for both you and the client.
Start your business off on the right foot by getting a business license. You’ll want to make sure that everything is legal and that you keep accurate records of your expenses and income. There are also several tax deductions that you can take as a business owner, and you’ll have access to wholesale sewing supplies.
Make some business cards to distribute to people you know. Also, leave them at certain places around town depending on what type of sewing you are specializing in. For example, if you sew children’s clothing, you can arrange to have your cards available at local daycare centers. One of the most powerful ways to advertise your business is through word of mouth. Your friends, family and acquaintances will surely send clients your way once they know you’ve hung your shingle up for business.
Having a sewing business is a great way to do something that you love, help other people and make some money all at the same time. There are many Wahm jobs to choose from, but having a sewing business definitely offers the best deal for those who love to sew.

Sewing As A Business
Sewing As A Business
Congratulations on your decision to start a home sewing business; before you is a very exciting time in your life! To ensure that your business is the best it can possibly be, and has the best shot at being successful for the long-haul, you will need to follow some time-tested home business strategies. Let’s take a moment to briefly look at each of them:
The Business Plan
No matter what business you decide to start, you 100% have to have a solid business plan. There is no way possible to have a successful business venture without one. The best way to develop your business plan is to think about all of the variables which go into your unique business, and what your ultimate short-term and long-term goals are for the business. With all of this information, you can sit down and formulate a business plan without it taking you a lot of valuable time.
If you are attempting to obtain financing for your sewing business, you will have to have a business plan in place to show your potential lenders. Your business plan shows lenders that you are serious about your business, and also how it will be profitable to allow you to pay them back. Do not attempt financing without a good solid business plan because you are simply wasting your time.
Licensing and Regulations
Depending on the city, county, and possibly state you live in, you may have to get a business license to have a legal home-based business. The way to determine what the local rules and regulations are is to call up your local city and county government offices and ask them what you need to do. If you live in a state with sales tax, you should call up your state Controller’s Office and ask about obtaining a seller’s permit. You will most likely find that most government offices are supportive and helpful in getting you situated in a place where your business is legal.
Insurance
If you are conducting business out of your home, then you need to have a business liability insurance policy. Your regular homeowner’s policy will not cover any aspects of your business in the case of disaster. Home business liability insurance is fairly inexpensive and an absolute must have.
Financial Records
The best thing you can do for yourself is to keep good business records from day one of your business. Start with the fees to get a business license, and start recording every single business expense that you have. By doing this as you go you will save both yourself and your tax preparer a ton of headaches come tax time.
Setting Your Prices
The number one mistake many home-based sewing businesses make is to charge too little for their services. You need to make a living, and you need to be pricing your items and services accordingly. Whatever you do, do not sell yourself short! Ask a going rate for your items and services and expect that people will pay you what your time and product is worth. This allows you to work smarter and not harder!
Marketing
Marketing is simply getting the word out and letting others know your business exists. You can market online, through a press release sent to your local newspaper, flyers, brochures, craft fair booths, etc… Anywhere you come into contact with potential customers you can market your items and services. You can even do simple things like always carry business cards, available these days very inexpensively online, and hand them out to everyone you meet as you go through your days.
The absolute best way to market your business is through word-of-mouth. Once your business gets going, if you treat your customers well, then they will tell their friends and family about you; this will bring you more customers without having to pay a dime to advertise.
As you can see there are a lot of things for you to consider when you are thinking about starting a home-based sewing business. However, your business can be very successful and profitable if you take the time to make it so.

Intro to the blog
Hi welcome to the Work from Home Niche Finder.
This is where I will be putting links to different work from home and on-line business related opportunities, such as affiliate programs,Internet Marketing, Products and services you can sell (or help you sell) on auction sites and classifieds. Arts and Crafts, Part-time & full Time biz ops.
The Job Ideas and opportunities will be divided by "Niche" as that's the way Internet Marketers put hobbies and Interests into different categories, the way advertisers decide what to promote and sell to you.
The first thing you need to know is that most Internet based jobs are connected to selling/promoting - or somewhere in the process of marketing - even if you are not 'directly' selling anything ever!
Affiliate programs for example do not require you to personally sell anything - they require you to send on-line visitors - that maybe interested in the product or service - you are promoting (in exchange for a commission) - so you, as an Affiliate need to create interest in that merchants product, in order to drive people to that site.
So while you aren't directly selling - you are indirectly selling, thus knowledge of attracting a buyers attention needs to be put into practice or learned in order to make sales that make you money.
So...
Firstly on this blog we will be looking at Niches - looking at hobbies or your interests that maybe the inspiration to work from home - we will focus on a range of different Niches, what Niche can work for you?
Secondly I will be adding examples of other people's business ideas or hobbies "niches" that have worked for them - can a niche like their's work for you ? - is there a niche like their's you can use or do you want to affiliate and promote their niche maybe ?
Thirdly having decided on your niche or business opportunity of choice I will be looking at some of the basics of Internet Marketing, including building a list of optin subscribers, social networking and other tools and tips for keeping your website visitors happy.
Note:
I don't have all the answers, this blog is just my attempt to put some of the most likely answers in the right order - if it helps you any, or makes you any cash, you can always treat me to a vacation and tell me all about it :)
