There are two manners of doing business on the Web. You can utilize the Web to expand your bricks-and-mortar business, or you can start an entirely web-based business. Both routes require time and commitment to learning how e-commerce works and what it takes to build and maintain a successful website.
Perhaps the most amazing aspect of the Internet is that you can communicate with, and do business with, anyone in any part of the world as long as he's connected to the web. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) link you to places around the globe in seconds, and doing business is a couple of clicks away. Therefore, your first customers on a web-based business in Ohio could be from Sydney, Australia, a location you would never have reached through traditional business methods a decade ago.
Additionally, the Internet provides, to some degree, a level playing field between large and small companies. For example, if you put together an excellent looking site working from your basement, and a multi-million dollar company puts together a site working from its own industrial park, someone looking at the two sites on their computer may not see any significant difference.
So, what do you do to build your own web business or utilize the Web to enhance your business? First and foremost, evaluate other Web sites and see which ones you do and do not like. Look at each site with a critical eye. Ask yourself the following questions:
1. Do I like the page layout?
2. Do the products or service jump out at me or are the pages cluttered?
3. Is the site easy to navigate or do I have to click again and again to find things?
4. Is the content crisp and clear or confusing and poorly written?
5. Is the site current or does it appear out of date?
6. Is there a way to contact the site owner or customer service?
7. How easy is it to buy something from selection through checkout?
8. Are shipping terms concise and easy to understand?
Next you will need to plan out your site. What will be on each page and how will you capture the essence of your business? Look at prominent web sites for an idea of how they display products, present features, and walk you through the checkout process. Planning out a site is like decorating an apartment or arranging a store. You need to figure out exactly where everything should go and how you want potential customers to find each item or service you offer.

Individuals favor this type of employment as they are able to work out of their home and make a living by doing so. There are many beneficial factors which make engaging in serious home based business opportunity a wise decision. Some of these include being able to stay home with the kids, eliminate a work commute and be your own boss. There are various factors which equal a serious home based business opportunity and some of these will be discussed below.
A great home based business opportunity is one which allows individuals to make a good living from their self-employment. As opposed to part time jobs from home, one who engages in a serious venture will be able to pay the bills and have money left over to spend on other items as well. Some may even find a home based business that they can pass down from generation to generation.
Individuals who have constructed a business plan for their home based business will find that this in and of itself equates with a serious home based business opportunity. Those who take the time and effort to establish a business plan for their business truly show that they wish to make their business a complete success.

Starting A Genealogy Business

If you wan to success in the genealogy business you need to ask yourself:
1. Research = what are other selling - invest in some products in the price range you'd like to be able to sell at - what are they offering at that price, if they are a big organization you need to think of benefits a person gets from working with a smaller business rather than a larger one etc.
2.what product or service do I want to sell - brain storm get all the ideas no matter how crazy or big they sound - get the ideas down on paper - then take a good look at what is the top favorite - and focus on steps to achieve that.
3. What you want to create and what you need to create in order to generate money from the start are two different things, take another look at your list - look at what you could sell at a reasonable price that the largest amount of your target market could afford to buy - as this is what will make you money first, a targeted, affordable product that has something a lot of people in genealogy would want.

Genealogy is a hot business right now. Just look at the interest in scrap-booking, even though this trend applies more to being able to maintain a complete family history. Once someone is hooked on creating a current history, however, chances are good that the bug will bite hard and cause a person to want to know more about his roots. While some people will want to do the whole thing themselves, most people don't have the resources or the time, and they won't know where to look for the information they need.
As a genealogical Researcher, you'll be able to consult with curious families in a variety of ways, either by offering to teach them the basics of how to start their research, or by filling in the gaps they are not able to fill. This could include spending a day in the state historical society, writing down the names of publications that are appropriate to their search, or actually leafing through the books and 100-year-old newspaper archives page by page, looking for the names of family members who may be a branch on the family tree.
Of course genealogy is not an exact or a stagnant art. If you love getting up to your elbows in old books and papers and have a passion for witnessing how certain historical events affected one family, you'll be in heaven as a genealogical researcher.
